Alba Triana: music on a bound string No. 2

Alba Triana’s music on a bound string No. 2 is a kinetic sound and light sculpture that operates according to the principles of wave behavior and diffraction. Suspended between two points within a beam of light, the string is subjected to an infrasound audio signal. As the string vibrates, it diffracts the colors that make up the beam of light, making various tones of its sonic agitation and the changes in the beam’s spectral content.

Alba Triana

Since the early 2000s, Colombian artist Alba Triana has striven to understand the essence of all things through vibrations. Triana believes vibrational phenomena are fundamental to everything, and that everything possesses an inherent vibratory signature, from the most minuscule objects to the unfathomably vast universe. Trained as a composer, Triana expanded her practice to accommodate these explorations, incorporating sculpture, performance, and installation to produce immersive experiential environments. Her work invites the audience to encounter vibration and its effects in new ways.
